After a visit to Four Seasons Resort Palm Beach, Faith Rein and Udonis Haslem knew they had found the perfect wedding venue for the country-chic celebration of their dreams. “The Resort was beautiful, and I just fell in love with it,” Faith says. “We didn’t feel the need to go to other venues.” The couple—based in Miami, where the groom plays pro basketball for the Miami Heat—worked with the Resort’s expert team and other wedding vendors to create a sophisticated event with a laid-back vibe to reflect their personalities. “Our wedding was everything I could have hoped and dreamed it would be,” adds Faith. “We truly enjoyed every second of what will always be one of the most amazing days of our lives.”
The Scene: “I knew I wanted [the day to have] a Mason-jar, front-porch feeling with a lot of elegance,” explains the bride, a Virginia native. The wedding and reception décor was inspired by the couple’s save-the-date, designed by Anna Bond of Rifle Paper Co., and featured a mix of florals in peach, ivory and green with a hint of metallic gold. Farmhouse tables, mismatched chairs and wooden touches complemented exquisite floral arrangements in crystal vases, chandeliers and metallic details to create the sophisticated Southern look the bride had envisioned.
Magical Moment: “We didn’t know if we would be able to have the ceremony outside, but it worked out,” says the bride of their poolside nuptials. “The weather was beautiful.” After a sunny, relaxed ceremony, the bride and groom made their marital debut by walking down the aisle together to the sound of TuPac’s “Two of America’s Most Wanted”—a favourite song of the groom.
The Bride and Groom: Faith and Udonis, who have been together since 2001, met while in school at the University of Florida, where he played basketball and she ran track. The NBA player proposed more than a decade later in 2012, after the couple returned home from an Italian vacation. “I thought it would happen in Italy,” Faith says, “but a few days after we got back, while my parents were visiting, he woke me up in the middle of the night, got on bended knee next to my side of the bed, and proposed.” The couple were so excited that they woke Faith’s parents at 3:00 am to share the good news.
The Bride Wore: The bride, a self-proclaimed tomboy, donned a beautiful Vera Wang lace dress with a customized neckline, accessorizing with a custom-made veil from Camille La Vie and black lace Christian Louboutin shoes. “While I love dress-up, I like my version of dressing up,” she says. “I don’t do sexy all the time, like the way this dress fits and hugs the curves. But I thought he’d like to see me in this dress.” After dancing with her father at the reception, the bride changed into a short black Dolce & Gabbana dress “to further represent my sense of style.”
Personal Touches: The bride incorporated a variety of family favourites into the wedding details, including serving her mom’s mini pecan pies as wedding favours, packaged with the recipe and a custom illustration of the couple. In their welcome bag, each guest found homemade granola and cookies.
